[...] I hope everybody is paying attention, because I’m about to give you the best recommendation I could ever give. Right now, you need to stop what you’re doing and go and buy Generation Kill by Evan Wright. I could not more readily endorse a book than this one. My friend Kristen recommended it to me after my series of posts on war last month. Kristen’s husband Craig serves in the U.S. Army and has been to Iraq twice so she picked up the book to get a better feel for what her fiance at the time was experiencing. Kristen encouraged me to read it after my series of posts on war to get a soldiers perspective on the war outside of the romanticized versions that you see on FoxNews, other news media outlets, and the spin that we get from the White House. And more importantly beyond the detached-ness of my perspective and theories. [...]

[...] I’ve still been sitting with and thinking about war, even after the series of posts I did on it. I just don’t want to let my thoughts slip into a political stance or into detached words or economic theory. I made a couple of thoughts about how I think playing a more role up front, instead of just putting out fires, would go a long way in preventing some conflict. [...]

an interesting idea, if you eliminate deaths which have taken place in the ongoing war in iraq because no one can be sure whos killing who, shias, kurds, sunni, u.s., insurgents, terrorists, all basicly killing each other and all at one time being called terrorists by the other. all in the name of thier indivdual ideas of freedom. what i find quite amazing in this global fight on terrorism is that since that heartbreaking day in new york which stole a part of all our soles 5 years ago if you add up every terrible death attributed to,claimed by, blamed on,any group no matter how loosely connected to al Qeada thats spain, england, bali and every other place on earth in 5 years less than 9oo terrorist caused deaths have occured thats less than 200 per year world wide.during that same 5 year period more deaths where caused by lightning, bathtub drowndings, slips in the shower, electricution by toasters, blenders, hair driers, eaten by annimals, hit by falling objects from the heavens i could go on forever but hopefully your getting my point. is it that these terrorist cant find any one to kill. or maybe they have a shortage of willing to blow myself up nuts.seeing the amount of the willing in iraq that doesnot seem to be the case.maybe its the great job all the goverments are doing protecting thier countryman.lets take the strongest, smartest, wealthiest america.as i am sitting here,100 ilegals have strolled into my country,2000 per day 14000 per week 50000 per month over 600000 per year so is it logical to think thats the reason no terrorist? not likely.so if they have the crazies, can just walk in with the other ilegals why in 5 years have they not? the only logical explanation seems to be they dont want to.we have because of this ongoing story given up rights we have protected for 200 years spent nearly a Trillon dollors of our childrens future and scared our people to the point of unclear thinking im not saying there are not dangerous people out there but as a country of very tough, heroic asskicking renagades how afraid should we be of these nonexsistant enimies
