Insanity

Are you kidding me?

Scientist just discovered some more stuff we never knew about. Basically Antarctic ice melt is opening up ocean that we’ve never had access too (I hate to admit old Gore might be right). So some a Life Aquatic team went down to film some stuff.

And if you go to CNN’s main page and click on the “Gallery” link beside the article you can see some of the pictures of the new animals.

When I saw the male pycnogonid carrying it’s eggs (yes a male giving birth) I realized how insane it was that this cycle of life has been going on in the Antarctic, under the ice and under the water, in the pitch dark for a very freaking long time and this is just the first time that we’ve seen pictures of it. How bizarre and mind blowing is that? That life has been going on simultaneously with our lives and yet we haven’t even known about this “life”. I mean I’m not trying to get all trippy and stuff. But do you realize right now there is a male pycnogonid spider thingy giving birth to some baby pycnogonid at this very moment. And no one is there to see it.

If a tree falls in the forest does it make a noise? Absolutely.

Maybe the Earth isn’t 6500 years old after all.

dude, seriously… does this kind of stuff not just rock your world? i get giddy as a school girl just thinking about new marine life and new creatures. crap, i have 2 magazine subscriptions: national geographic adventure and smithsonian. in the smithsonian, there was a small article on this giant flower that smells like rotting flesh. it’s bigger than a small kid. AWESOME. but it doesn’t eat the kid, which i think might be a bummer, because i really liked little shop of horrors.

If it is giving birth why didn’t they just say that was the FEMALE pycnogonid. Would have saved some confusion.

I’d just like to point out that the attending physician at the pycnogonid hospital/nursery is there. I’d imagine his estranged mother-in-law is there too, even though she doesn’t really like him.

    Just sayin’.
