LOST Recap
Ok. Seriously. LOST may very well be the greatest television show of all time. As much as I love the wit of Arrested Development, the story-telling of Seinfeld, and the suspense of 24 (the early years) . . . LOST is hands down the best TV show of all time for my money. And for those of you who refuse to watch it (ahem . . . Eric) you’re missing out. And you wouldn’t regret it.
With all that said . . . let’s discuss one of the top 5 episodes from the greatest television show ever.
Jack is obviously faking it. He couldn’t tell Kate what was going on because they were recording him. But I believe it when he said that he was going to come back for her. There is obviously still something there between them.
The real question is why was Tom helping Jack. By reminding him that they were recording in Kate’s room?
I’ve said it multiple times before, but I believe there are multiple groups of Others. Or that the Others have factions within their group and there is a battle for leadership. Ben underscored this tonight when he told Locke that he was afraid his people would see him as weak and then he’d be done with. So I think Ben deep-down is legit. He seems to be a man of his word. And operates under the banner of honor. This is the 3rd or 4th time we’ve seen him keep his word. Letting Michael off. Letting Juliet off. Letting Jack off. The fact that he used Locke to help him stop them means nothing. He still wanted to keep his word. But he’s so paranoid right now about the splintering factions.
I think Ben and Tom go way back. And they are good friends.
I think the other group of Others is led by the blond lady from a couple of episodes back. The “sheriff” lady. As a side note . . . I think there is another group of “Others” who is not a part of this group at all. Who are left over from Dharma . . . left over from “the purge”. This group is against or at war with Ben’s group. The left-over Dharma people who’ve yet to meet (unless Rousseau is one of them) against Ben’s Mittelos Bioscience group. I think they were in competition with each other for the island. And it’s powers.
Ben really was intrigued by Locke’s being healed. I think he is genuinely interested as a scientist as to how it happened. He meant what he said with Locke having a communion with the island. That made him special. Ben realizes that he needs Locke on his side. On his “team” or his “group”.
That’s why he has his dad (Cooper) there. He effectively needs Locke to get his shit together so he can be useful. Right now he’s just blabbering away and running around without any direction. Ben needs him to center himself and reorient himself to some sense of stability . . . then he can be used.
I believe Ben really is curious as to how come he isn’t getting healed like Locke. The purple sky and the “anomaly” is the reason. When the hatch got blown up . . . it not only disabled communication . . . it stopped the healing powers perhaps. Locke and Rose were already healed . . . Ben was not. But then again . . . why would Ben even have the tumor to begin with? Wouldn’t the island have healed it before the explosion?
Another question. How did they get Cooper on the island?
I see 2 possibilities.
1) They kidnapped Cooper from the mainland. Which would mean that they still have access to the mainland and have communication. Meaning Ben was a liar in this episode. Patchy was a liar in the last episode. And Tom was a liar 3 episodes ago when he told Jack they lost communication when the sky turned purple.
2) This makes more sense to me . . . Cooper is one of them. He’s faking it now. He’s still pulling a con on Locke. He works for Mittelos. Or is a part of Dharma. A former member. This could be why Patchy gave Locke a special look in the jungle when he was telling them how he knew each one.
I’ve got many more thoughts . . . but I need to check some of my thoughts in the message boards first. I’ll probably give you another post tomorrow. I’m obsessive I know.
Finally . . . why is Jack the “Man from Tallahassee”? Or is it Cooper? When Ben told Tom to get him the Man from Tallahassee . . . when Locke was in the closet . . . did he already know he was going to have to go that route? By introducing him to his dad?
That’s where Kate was where she drugged her husband. That’s where Sawyer is from. That’s where Locke is from. And Juliet and her sister were in Miami. There is something about Florida. Some connection there that they all share.
I’m also modifying a couple of my other theories from the last couple of weeks.
I believe Alex really is Rousseau’s daughter. Or at least Rousseau believes that.
And I think Locke and someone else (not Desmond and Penny) are the Adam & Eve characters in the caves from Season 1.

[...] each week I just get more and more into this show. I love reading people’s thoughts, like Josh’s recaps, and stuff from The Lost [...]
It’s not so much LOST, as it is… well…any TV whatsoever:
“Realizing viewers automatically enter a trance state while watching television, marketers began designing commercials that produce unconscious emotional states or moods within the viewer. The aim of commercials is not to appeal to the rational or conscious mind (which usually dismisses advertisements) but rather to implant moods that the consumer will associate with the product when it is encountered in real life. When we see product displays at a store, for instance, those positive emotions are triggered.”
Besides, I’ll watch it when it ends and the DVD’s are out. =P
(and yes, I know I could get a TiVo or build me a mythbox… meh.)
Richard Alpert (the other dude that recuited Juliet with Ethan for Mittelos) showed up in this episode - Another famous name -
“Real-life Dr. Richard Alpert (a.k.a. Ram Dass) is a noted psychologist and Hindu spiritualist. In 1963 he was dismissed from Harvard University for his research (in collaboration with Timothy Leary, Aldous Huxley, Allen Ginsberg and others) into psilocybin, LSD-25, and other psychedelic chemicals. Later he traveled to India where he was given his Hindu spiritual name “Ram Dass” which translates as “Servant of God”

eric. i don’t even have words.
andy. really nice find. that makes a lot of sense and fits right in with the hindu themes of dharma. i also remember something previously about huxley.
Josh - Sorry I missed the call last night after the show. We headed straight to bed and some prebed reading. . . so I didn’t want to get worked up with Lost talk when we were snuggling reading.
That having been said. . . Lost talk.
Sayid is by far my favorite character. I just think he seriously kicks some ass. I also think he has everything under control.
Jack - He is one heck of a piano player. But he is also developing into someone that understands the game he has to play on the island.
Locke’s father. . . I am going to go out on a limb and say that it is not really him. We have seen other things that the island has made manifest that aren’t real. Eko’s brother, Kates horse, Jack’s father. . . I just don’t think this guy is actually the guy we saw earlier. The island just made a vision come true.
Ben is a key player. . . he has to balance everything and everyone out. If he dies, the mysteries of the island die. .
Just some thoughts from the workspace.
