LOST Thoughts.
Perhaps the painting in Ben’s home is the biggest easter egg of all.
It looks a lot like Karen DeGroot . . . who for all of you non-nerds out there is one of the founders of Dharma along with Alvar Hanso. She’s in all of the training videos that the Losties keep finding in the hatches.
Perhaps one of the Dharma founders is Ben’s mom? Maybe during the purge/fight for the island between the Others (Mittelos) and Dharma . . . Ben switched sides from Dharma to help the Others.
I’m probably reading way too much into it. But the producers don’t put stuff in the show arbitrarily. If it’s in there . . . it’s for a reason.

Another thought . . . from the message boards.
“Here are my reasons for thinking that Locke did not in fact blow up the submarine:
1.) As we find out, Locke knew that Ben let him keep the C-4. He knew Ben wanted him to go through with his plan. As a point to this, we have Alex telling Locke over and over that her dad is just trying to manipulate him. What is the best way to con the con man? Convince him you have been conned.
2.) We distinctly see Locke enter the sub and look around. Why in the world would he even bother investigating the interior if his only intent was to blow it up? He was looking for the controls in order to move it. Also, he seemed to have plenty of time to reach the dock before the sub blew. There would be no reason for Locke to jump into the water instead of climbing back onto the dock if his intent was just to blow the thing up.
3.) Locke was clearly soaking wet when Jack and co. came up on him. You could say that Locke, for some strange reason, went inside the sub, did not want to plant the C-4 there, got out and dove into the water and planted the C-4 on the outside of the sub. I do not believe this. First, how did Locke know the trigger would even work when exposed to water? Second, an explosive placed on the side or bottom of the sub would not create the upward busting fire cloud explosion. You would get a sideways or mostly water effect I would think.
4.) Perhaps Locke indeed knows how to operate that piece of machinery. We certainly know more of Locke’s past but not all of it. After all, he was pretty confident he could do the Walkabout in a wheelchair. He was not short of confidence or knowledge at that point in his life.
Especially if you consider this picture.

I see that you haven’t commented on the fact that I don’t believe that Locke’s dad is actually there.
We don’t know how Locke activated the C4. . . there were wires coming out of it, but there wasn’t a trigger, he had to create something to activate it. . something that was time sensitive. . so he knew he had. . say 5 minutes or so.
He must have some sort of training to arm the c4. It isn’t like any other explosive.

nick . . . do you think it’s the smoke monster?
why would ben ask tom to bring him the man from Tallahassee then?
but i agree about locke. i think he has some military training. i think people are making look like an idiot. but i think he’s super-smart and knows exactly what he’s doing. it was kind of like he was being a smart-alec with ben when he said how does he know that he wasn’t in the navy. if that’s the case then that means he’s outside the reach of ben. i don’t know. did you look at that pic from his apartment when he was eating the tv dinner?

I think John is really now part of the island and he doesn’t want to come back to realworld because doing so might bring back all the “jinks” in his life. He is afraid that he will be in the wheelchair again and afraid of seeing his father.
In this episode, he really shows his intentions… he doesn’t to survive and go back… he wants to be left behind…
