Even the "surprises" are predictable. It does appear, though, that Jack is discovering his soul, sort of, this season. This will apparently be blasphemy(sp?) to write these words on this blog, but I never did "get" Lost, have never been able to understand it-even with Josh's articulate recaps - maybe my mind is too simplistic...please don't hate me!
