I Changed My Mind.
After taking a look at Nick’s setup I decided that I might have dismissed things to easily. So I revisited my thoughts from last week. Or maybe I just can’t sleep and got bored. But I think I like this set up better.
But I went back and downloaded Quiksilver (can’t decide if I like it yet – partly because I’m not sure of it’s full capabilities). Added Sticky Windows, custom Black & Blue icons for my apps and a Transformer logo for my hard drive, and Clear Dock (although I think it makes them look like cartoons). I also decided to hide the dock.
I also killed Dashboard and it’s widgets. Since they run all the time and I never use them, it was killing some of my juice. But I found the kill switch via Terminal. And decided to give Casey’s suggestion a try, I’ve put all of my junk into one folder.
In addition, I also strongly reassert my theory that the Mighty Mouse is the most superior tool there is available with it’s side button functions.
I’ve also added some features to Firefox (see below). I added a GMail tool (in the slots to the left of the address bar) that lets me select text directly from a website and email it by right clicking on it. And I’ve added 2 Flickr tools. One that pulls up Flickr within my sidebar. And another that lets me download the full resolution images from the site as opposed to the compressed thumbnails. Which is quite useful when I’m stealing other people’s photos for graphic design. I also reactivated the search bar to the right of the address bar which I use almost exclusively for Wikipedia and Technorati.
FIREFOX UPDATE: Also in the new Firefox update, when you select a body of text from a web page, when you right click it you can view the HTML code from the selected source. As opposed to the entire page. You can also search the text in Wikipedia. As a web guy, this is huge.

“that lets me select text directly from a website and email it by right clicking on it.”
Wait, what? I thought you were using a mac. How do you right click?
I keed, I keed.
Since your such a fan of very clean setups, you should talk to d10 about firefox. I forget the name, but there’s a leet extension that basically compresses the toolbars down to a very, very, small amount of the screen.

I’m glad to see so much fodder from Lifehacker making the rounds. If you’re reading this and Lifehacker isn’t in your rss, it is as good as anything out there.
