Live-Blogging NPR’s Democratic Debate.
I’m live-blogging the NPR Democratic debate should anyone be interested. I know it’s a little late. I was doing a live-Twitter, but I don’t piss off my Twitter friends with a barrage of Tweets. So they’re below. I’ll update every few minutes.
Nothing is better than doing design work while I listen to a political debate. I’m a nerd.
***UPDATED BELOW ***
4:00 – done. a lot of talking in circles. a lot of people tooting their own horns. what do you expect with politicians. hillary was a cyborg. kuccinich was very sharp in all areas but still saw a ufo one time and has a wife 30 years younger than him who has a tongue ring. not white house material. obama sounded like he struggled and was way more passive and sort of just blended in. and edwards was really good. i wonder if he’s matured or is just following in the footsteps of kerry the flip flopper.
3:50 – kuccinich said we are afraid of the “other” and have created an insular being. he sees the world as interconnected and as one. one shared humanity.
3:47 – biden sounds the most articulate, composed, and classy
3:46 – the debate is getting bogged down at this point as everybody talks in circles about immigration
3:33 – they continue to skirt the larger issues. that of american hyper-consumption. they’ve had 3 topis: 1) irag/iran, 2) china, 3) immigration reform. all 3 issues have everything to do with american hyper-consumption. only kuccinich and edwards are talking about starting from a fundamentally different starting point and not just changing the window treatments
3:26 – hillary is a cyborg. she has no emotion. i wonder if she’s ever had a flicker in her eye.
3:25 – kuccinich is really a nice guy. a total geek. but it’s just not going to happen for him.
3:12 – only edwards (so far) has put the blame on us as opposed to china. everybody keeps blaming china for environmental problems and sweat shop labor. edwards says it’s our corporate america that demand and empower china’s low standards (npr’s live-blog on this section)
3:10 – hillary can’t quit defining herself against the current administration as opposed to articulating her own ideas.
2:55 – kuccinich is talking about local. the host is pressing them all on 3rd world labor. instead of $300 tvs, it’s going to cost $600
2:53 – as much as i hate to admit, edwards is nailing it
2:40 – for the first time, i feel like john edwards is sounding like a leader. i wish they’d let dennis and barack talk more
2:35 – listening to the Democratic debate on NPR

kucinich is amazing.
as for edwards – he sounds amazing. but i would have more respect for the guy if he didn’t completely change over the last four years. i am not really sure who the real edwards is.
edwards did (and said) nothing about labor, poverty, the environment, etc while he was in the senate. when he was running for senate he even supported the idea that n. carolina was a right for work state, and said that he saw no reason to change that. now he pretends to be the most labor-friendly candidate. and it doesn’t hurt that edwards has been unemployed for 4 years, so he has had little better to do than to walk picket lines and whatnot.
it just seems a bit too situational to me.

totally agree dave about edwards. i’m trying to decide if he’s changed and is in the process of maturing. or he’s just turned political. i can’t tell. but i kind of feel like he’s been maturing. and growing into his role.

Aw, c’mon Josh…why can’t you embrace the story of an aging former mayor of Cleveland with big ambition and vision who meets the knockout ambitious redhead who admires his passion and falls deeply in love?
So she’s got a tongue ring and they’re both pantheists and a little weird?
I still think he’s the sharpest and most intelligent one of them all. Screw that he doesn’t have a chance in hell of winning. I’m voting for the guy.

I like Kucinisch on the positions, but I don’t think he has the tools to be president. What we need right now is an inspirational leader who can reorient our nation and save our reputation. That has to be Edwards or Obama.
If our biggest problem is corporate greed run amuck, then Edwards is the best to tackle that issue. Maybe Edwards/Obama ticket would do the trick.
Clinton would do for insurance companies what Bush/cheney did for defense contractors and oil companies. We need real non-profit health care without insurance companies ass-raping us.

Josh,
I understand he doesn’t have a shot. I just think he’s the best candidate. And he’s got the best Hollywood teen-movie romance going on.
It’s still an active question in my head which is the “best” vote; whether to vote who I really want to be president (irregardless of chances) or to vote to protect against those I consider a raving idiot or benign politico (in which case I would vote Obama).
Call me a shallow voter, but Edwards just seems slippery to me…I don’t trust the guy. It mainly stems from him claiming to be on the side of the working class when he has absolutely no connection with it at all other than the feel-good “my dad worked in a factory” schtick.
I liked Brownback a little but he backed out, Giuliani’s “peace through strength” is a recipe for disaster (already begun by Bush). I dunno.
If this ends up being Edwards or Clinton vs. Giuliani or Romney or Huckabee, I’ll go right to the precinct and puke on a card and turn it in…or still vote for Kucinich as a write-in
