Frank Viola & Pagan Christianity Podcast.
We’re doing a podcast with Frank Viola this week and will probably spend a good portion of our time talking about his new book with Barna, Pagan Christianity. It probably won’t be edited and up for a couple of weeks after that. But here’s the deal. I haven’t read the book. And although I’m moderately familiar with the content courtesy of the blog-o-sphere rumbling to life with it’s reactions . . . I really don’t have much to offer as far as conversation. So I thought I’d give any of my readers a shot at giving me some questions to ask. Just leave them in the comments and I’ll pick out 2 or 3 of the best and use those as my questions. Thanks.

hmnn …
Hopefully Derek will put some good questions on here … since I haven’t read the book, although I’m fairly familiar with the ideas. Here are a couple, though.
What might be some practical steps for leaders within traditional fellowships to transition from “pagan” systems to a more biblically based model?
How would the early church have viewed the modern Christian fascination with political activism (whether conservative or liberal)?
Can you actually PLAY the viola?
That should do to start.
Peace.

I haven’t read the whole book, but I would ask:…
Do you believe that the Church can only accomplish it’s mission if we return to the original form and practices of the first century church? Should our goal to be to replicate the first century church or to be the best 21st century we can be?Or something like that.

Here’s a question: “Acknowledging that you can’t read the hearts of men, what do you think lies behind the fury of your strongest critics?”

Josh, you might actually make the first podcast that I’ll ever download and listen to. It’ll be a new age for me.
The book isn’t out until Feb. 1st. And I haven’t read the original one (which is hard to find). So it’s hard to get too specific about that book. But I’ve got a few questions anyway.
One question would be: why re-release a book with the same title? Is this more like a 2nd edition, or is this mostly new material?
How did you and Barna first get to know each other, and decide to start working together? How have you affected each other during the process of working on this book?
Do you see the New Testament being more descriptive or more prescriptive? What level of freedom do we have in interpreting those descriptions or prescriptions?
How can we encourage friends we have in the modern church to understand the correlation between theology and practice in the New Testament?
Do you think it is possible, and do you have any anecdotal evidence, of existing modern churches making significant changes towards a form of church that more accurately reflects New Testament descriptions?
Why do you think megachurches are so “successful”? Are there elements of their approach that are useful for house churches to incorporate?
How do you think the “large event” emphasis has distorted the typical Christian’s concept of church, and what examples have you seen, if any, of house churches doing similar things, for either positive or negative results?
