Opening Day Predicitions 2008

I was a little off last year. But this year it’ll be different.

AMERICAN LEAGUE
East - Boston Red Sox (the Yankees are still a mess and I hate them)
Central - Detroit Tigers (I’d be scared to death if I was a pitcher)
West - Seattle Mariners (I like their manager and if King Felix can stay healthy . . . watch out)
Wild Card - Cleavland Indians (they didn’t come near what they could have done last year, they were scratching the surface; and my pick for the World Series if the Sox can’t get their pitching healthy)

MVP - Miguel Cabrera
Cy Young - Felix Rodriguez (I’m really just taking a flier on this, but if he’s healthy, he’s going to be really good)

NATIONAL LEAGUE
East - Philadelphia Phillies (as much as I hate to admit it, the Braves have solid but unhealthy pitching)
Central - Chicago Cubs (they’ve got more than enough pitching this year)
West - Los Angeles Dodgers (this division is wide open, but I think the Dodgers can pull it off. Torre is going to help big time and Kemp and Loney are going to explode out of nowhere. But you could just as easily tell me the Diamondbacks and Rockies will take the next step forward)
Wild Card - Atlanta Braves (I like the Braves but I’m a homer, offense will be more than solid and if the starting pitching can stay healthy, they could be a big surprise)

MVP - Mark Texeria or Utley
Cy Young - Tim Hudson or Brad Penny (Santana will win it and the Mets will make the playoffs but I hate them more than I hate the Yankees)

World Series: Indians over the Braves

  2. granted, i graduated high school with the NL Cy Young winner from the padres (jake peavy)… but… i think you’re making a mistake leaving out the pads. they’re solid, man.

  4. Josh, Here’s my prediction. You’re going to be off again this year. Cleveland over the Atlanta?

How about the Red Sox over the Diamondbacks.

  7. Ken Rosenthal is actually picking us (The Braves) to win the World Series, which is freaking great (his picks have never won).

I’m looking forward to seeing what Glavine puts up, I’m kind of worried after last season, but I did like the couple games that they put on TV of him pitching this spring. I guess I’ll see on Monday.
