I really love this song. You can listen to it streamed from my first Muxtape. It’s the first track. It’s gotten about 60 full plays since I downloaded it last week. That’s a lot in my world of iTunes. It’s become my new anthem because it’s lyrics are so freaking brilliant. Check them out below. But be sure to catch the what should be apparent sarcasm and poking fun at those who live the “fake” lives. I’ve been struggling with my “direction” and “focus” lately (more on that in the next post). I feel myself slipping closer and closer to something that I’m not. And this song has landed on me with some real weight and at a time when I need an anthem like this. I bleeped out a few lines because of the rough language.
I’m not sure if these lyrics are really this cynical or if they really are having a bit of satirical fun with the whole corporate lifestyle. But I’m dancing to the latter.
I’m feeling rough, I’m feeling raw, I’m in the prime of my life.
Let’s make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.
This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We’ve got the vision, now let’s have some fun.
Yeah, it’s overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute.
Forget about our mothers and our friends
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend
I’ll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I’ll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I’ll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I’ll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone.
There’s really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.
The models will have children, we’ll get a divorce
We’ll find some more models, everything must run it’s course.
We’ll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
We were fated to pretend
To pretend
We’re fated to pretend
To pretend

rocking out.
..hoping my batteries don’t run out… (don’t you miss that slow down where janet jackson’s voice would slowly start to sound like her brothers? oh, wait… that doesn’t really work. Tiffany sounded like the Thompson Twins when she slowed down. Man, I used to listen to sucky music.
josh, i LOVE this song also. a friend recently introduced it to me. i’m glad to see you’ve wandered across it also.
