So I’m still alive. I’m half tempted to post my calendar from the last 3 weeks so you can see just how absurd my life has been. But no complaining from me. Just trying to catch my breath that’s all.
So I’m still wanting to take the next step with Amit. Even though I haven’t had the time to build an infrastructure the way I would like to with pretty graphs and pictures. I think I’d like to go ahead and try it and develop the framework as we go along. Amit has been emailing me almost every day and I can’t put him off any longer just because I’m busy.
So here’s my plan. The non-profit is going to come together. But it’ll probably be mid-June. My friend is putting one together and we will have an opportunity to connect the two. So in the interim I don’t know of a good way to handle the money. I’m not sure if there is a secure website out there that allows you to collect funds from a variety of people. We can set up a paypal account and then select 3 to 4 people to monitor it to make sure nobody is skimming off the top if that is a concern.
Amit doesn’t really have the time for me to figure out the complicated logistics. So I’m going to propose it here and leave it at that for now until I have more time to develop a model to be replicated by others.
So if you’re interested in helping with the loan, or making a small portion of the loan, or advertising it on your site, etc . . . please leave a comment or shoot me an email. I’ll get you the artwork and the details. If you want to be a primary partner with me and Red Cowboy, then we can discuss the financial and security issues associated with creating a team to watch over the money.
Tentatively, I’m going to offer a promotion (that I’ll announce midweek when I catch my breath) where I will offer my design services in return for a loan to the fund. For example, if you want a website and I quote you at $2500. I’ll do the website for free and your money for the project will go directly to the fund. I’ll announce more later in the week. But that’s what I’m thinking. I’ll give away design projects in return for lending. You can choose to get paid back like a regular loan. Or you can just make a donation. So if you choose to be paid back, then technically you get free work done.
That’s my contribution. If you would have something creative you’d like to do along those lines, then let me know and we’ll make sure we get that info out there as well. This is a soft-launch where we get our team together. And then Wednesday I’ll make an official announcement where we set the network up and start the fundraising. So jump in now if you want to be a part of the team.
Thanks guys. Much love.

So, the amount you’re looking to raise for Amit is $7000? Or more/less? It might be easier for people to figure out their end if they know what the total goal is.
good call erin. it’s $7000. although i’d be happy loaning less if that’s all we could raise. i basically want to raise up to $7500. and loan whatever we get. whether that’s $7500 or $3000.
I’m in, I’ll happily put up a banner on the site, or whatever else you have in mind in that area.
Paypal’s rates are identical between non-profits and regular payments received, plus ease of use, that’s probably the best way for you to go. The only thing is any wishing to donate before your friend sets up his non-profit won’t get the tax deductible status.
i’m down for advertising, trying to get others involved and whatnot.
from june to late july i’ll be hit and miss because i’m moving across the country. but until then i’ll help in anyway i can.
send me a banner or something… this is worth promotion.
I’m in. Let me know what to do next.
i’m in.
i would love a banner.
and as soon as we get a paypal, or whatever, thing figured out, i’d like to be a part monetarily.
for those worried about tax exemption, if they make their donation in the form of a loan they wouldn’t be eligible for tax exemption anyway, right?
i’m in, but i’m also in guatemala for the next week, so my comp access is a little unknown till i get back.
As for as logistics, would one of the P2P loan sites like Prosper or GlobeFunder work? I’m not very familiar with their rules, regs & fees…
So… should I just paypal you, or what?
