I too am glad you are writing again. And I too appreciated this post. IMO, the Emergent Church died when it became the Emerging Church, and pretended that they were actually doing something new and different. I don't dislike the Emergent Church... and I think that it has added an important voice to American Evangelicalism. But the problem is that really is just a slightly better repackaged version of American Evangelism. It has not been able to shake itself of the me-first mentality that is embodied in Evangelicalism. IMO, the Emergent Church died when it became the Emerging Church, and pretended that they were actually doing something new and different. And wrote a bunch of books about it, realizing that they could proft off of thinking that they were actually doing something new and different.

I don’t dislike the Emergent Church… and I think that it has added an important voice to American Evangelicalism. But the problem is that really is just a slightly better repackaged version of American Evangelism. It has not been able to shake itself of the me-first mentality that is embodied in Evangelicalism.
