Somehow in the couple of times we have video chatted, we have had a George W. doll join us, a big black dog join us, Leslie dancing around in some sort of flamenco dancing outfit, fingers painted as people, and an unnamed person running around in a banana hammock. Not bad for a conversation between Tulsa, Birmingham, and Atlanta. Oh the power of the tubes that makes the internets work.
As previously discussed, Anna and I decided to go on a little Fast Food Fast. Well as of today, we have gone a month. And the results are in . . .
We ate fast food twice. Granted that’s not zero like we had hoped and planned, but we broke down one night on the way to some friend’s house and we had to eat fast or not eat at all. And the other was a Zaxby’s splurge when our friends from Wisconsin came in town and we had to eat it in order to introduce them to the best food ever.
Up next . . . a continuation and cutting out soft drinks? Anyone want to join me?
In a mini-celebration of 10,000 hits and the fact that you guys are all some of the most superb people I’ve ever/never met. I thought I would do a simple redesign on the site (if you can’t see it, you need to clear out your cache). I was getting tired of all the color and the dark red everywhere. Plus you’ll notice that I switched the sidebars to make it flow better.
But I also wanted to give you a brief short history of time, as it relates to my new blog home.
Many of you guys have been around since that very first fateful day back in August of 2002. You guys were with me as I blogged through the most backwards school/seminary on the face of the planet as I shared my frustrations of wanting to burn the place down and my fears of getting crucified. You were with me as I blogged through some of my good and bad relationships. You were there as I shared about the excitement of getting to know my best friend in a deeper way and you were there when I pulled the ring out of my pocket and put it on her hand.
You’ve been with me as I have shifted, sorted, traveled, dreamed, and thought.
We’ve met but never met some really great people: one of my best friends who has been around since the beginning and I’ve only met once, Sharon, our best friends Nick & Leslie, the D10′s, Eric & Heather, Tank & Jessica, Mike & Jill, the Pattons, the Bostonites (Dr. James & Gentry), Mike from the OC, Tabitha Jane from Portland, Corey from Seattle, the Canada boys Jamie and James, and Trevor, to name just a few. We’ve also pulled in local friends Kimberly, Seth, & Kristen. As well as adding new people who are joining in the conversation everyday. (side note: I hope you all appreciate the massive amount of time it took to link all of you)
All of that to say, I couldn’t be more grateful for you guys. I know blogs are a very difficult medium with a couple shortfalls as it relates to community, but I wouldn’t have made it to where I am today without the support of this community and conversation.
Well, it’s official. At the mini-Brown reunion, the truth started coming out. My immediate family tends to think I’m great. Not bragging or anything ala when D10 reclines and brags about his middle school basketball days. But my immediate family likes to ignore my many faults. Well, my cousins and other relatives don’t live by the same rules. On multiple occasions I was accused of letting myself go. Primarily in the stomach region. It’s true I’ve developed a small to medium sized gut.
Consequently, as of July 5th, Anna and I have embarked on a fast food fast. Inspired by the 30 day challenge of Super Size Me and the popularity of Fast Food Nation, we have set out on a journey of going 30 days without fast food.
So you can expect to see the frequency of our Cooking Blog increase. This is not so much a weight loss thing (although getting rid of the “You’re starting to look like your dad” comments will be an added bonus) as it will be about us getting rid of stuff that for the most part is not good for us. And to try and continue to develop the discipline of slow living.
